The Department of Biomedical Sciences contributes to the mission of the University of Minnesota Duluth campus to be a leader in:
- educating physicians dedicated to family medicine,
- to serve the healthcare needs of rural Minnesota and American Indian communities,
- and discover and disseminate knowledge through research
The Biomedical Sciences Department engages fully in the mission through research with a cadre of experts in the wide range of topics required to be taught during years one and two of the medical school curriculum.
Research Seminar Series
This series is a joint venture by Medical School, Duluth campus and College of Pharmacy, Duluth campus. During the academic year, seminars are held on Wednesdays of each month at 3:30 p.m. in Room 130 Medical School Duluth.

Two 2015 Faculty Teaching Awards
Arlen Severson, Ph.D. was awarded Basic Science Teacher of the Year – Year One and Kevin Diebel, Ph.D. was awarded Basic Science Teacher of the Year – Year Two: Kevin Diebel, Ph.D. These awards are voted by the medical school students in the school.
Annual Aufderheide Memorial Lecture and Student Research Symposium
The 2nd Annual Aufderheide Memorial Lecture and Student Research Symposium was held April 18th in the Medical School, Duluth Campus.
Dr. Jean Regal Recognized as 2015 Linda Larson Woman of the Year Faculty Award
Dr. Regal is Professor of Biomedical Sciences in the School of Medicine. She is the founder of the Academic Health Center Women's Mentoring Program, which facilitates discussion between women of important issues pertaining to success in the academic environment.
